Property description

Cortijo la Mata is a traditional Andalusian farmhouse constructed in the year 1911 which has been converted into three holiday accomodation units. Situated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range yet only ten minutes by car from the Alhambra Palace and the city of Granada the house is located just outside the old moorish village of Monachil in an area of outstanding natural beauty surrounded by olive, almond and cherry trees.

For those who are looking for a complete escape to the Andalusian countryside yet want to take advantage of all that the city of Granada has to offer plus take in the ski slopes of Spain's highest mountain range the location is perfect.

Local activities

From mountain biking, rock climbing and handgliding to flamenco lessons, goats cheese demos and cookery courses we can organize almost anything!

Apart from the local Monachil area itself the main attraction is without doubt Granada - the city of the Alhambra, Albayzin and the gypsy caves of Sacromonte. Trips to the Alhambra should be reserved in advance particularly in the months of summer and can be booked at www.alhambra-patronato.es

Sierra Nevada ski station is only 25 minutes away with the added advantage that there is a separate road from the village to the resort hence avoiding much of the Granada city traffic.

Further afield

Apart from the obvious atractions of the city of Granada, Monachil and the Sierra Nevada ski station there are many other activities a bit further afield.

Granada is well know in Spain for the possibility of skiing in the morning and sunbathing in the afternoon and the brand new stunning highway connection to the South now makes this all the easier. Beach resorts such as Salobreña and Almuñecar can be reached in 45 minutes by car from the village.

There is plenty of tourist information available at the property covering local and further away destinations.

How to get there

There are many options when travelling to Granada. Holidaymakers from other parts of continental Europe may well choose to travel by car whilst visitors from the UK or further afield will in most cases travel by aircraft. Spain also has a very good high speed rail network and the airports are becoming larger and more modern. Malaga airport also known as Pablo Ruiz Picasso airport is one of the busiest airports in Spain hence has a large choice of operators and is only 90 minutes by road from Granada. The brand new terminal 3 has just opened offering state of the art facilities.

Another option is Granada airport but unfortunately due to lack of public funding there are no longer any international flights so a connection would have to be made in Madrid or Barcelona.
