Scott and Sari Macdonald own and run Cortijo la Mata. They live locally with their two small boys Nico and Kian dividing time between Granada, Scott's native Scotland and their other home in Bali. Scott initially moved to Spain in 1996 with the intention of immersing himself in the language and culture. After spending a year studying and managing to get his Spanish up to scratch he was offered a job with a small multinational IT company and consequently moved to Barcelona, where he lived for the next five years.

In 2003, shortly after returning to Granada Scott discovered this old Andalusian farmhouse for sale on the internet and after taking a trip out to take a look, immediately fell in love with the place. He had just sold another holiday cottage he had owned close to Loch Lomond in Scotland for several years so decided to make an offer. He got the keys in April of that year and thus began a frenzied period of activity to get the cortijo ready for the all important summer season. It was hard work but finally by the middle of July 2003 Cortijo la Mata opened its doors to its first paying guests. All that is history now and since then many guests have relaxed around the pool or in front of the chimney and we have made many friends. You can read some of their words in the guest book.
